A view on the London Riots

I know I'm going off topic here but wanted to link to my friend's insightful blog on the London Riots. Watching it from Sao Paulo has been disconcerting - aren't we supposed to be in more 'imminent danger' here? I use to live up the road from the Junction where shops I frequented have been smashed in and burnt down. We're heading back to London for a visit next weekend and not sure how I'm going to feel walking around the streets of my old neigbourhoods with Sophie but then, I'm already use to walking around watch-less, ring-less and handbag-less...

Canadian PM becomes our 100th CIS member!

The Canadian PM, Stephen Harper, was in town on Tuesday and picked  Casa São José Community Centre that the Canadian International Society supports, to visit. We fund Marcio's, the capoeira teacher, degree so he can continue to teach the kids at this community center in Jardim São Luis. He watched the capoeira group perform, and drummed along with them, and the kids were fantastic, became the 100th official member of the CIS (!!) and doggy-bagged his churrasco to eat on his way to the airport.
